In light of national disaster, devastating earthquake which occurred on 27 May 2006 in the Special Province of Yogjakarta and Central Java, the Embassy of the Republic Indonesia in Bandar Seri Begawan conducted the “ Ghaib “ mass prayer for the Moslem casualties of tragedy. The service aims at showing solidarity  and unity toward our countrymen especially to casualties. The mass prayer was attended by Ambassador of Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Herijanto Soeprapto and more than 150 expatriates and families in Brunei Darussalam.

 

            The “ Ghaib “ mass prayer perform after “ isya “ led by Ustad H.Khairul Manan bin Hawawi a teacher of Institute Tahfiz Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.  The mass prayer was followed by the recital of “ surah Yassin “ led by Ustad Haji Dr. Abdurrahman Haqqi senior lecturer of Islamic Studies Institute of Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien, University of Brunei Darussalam. As of 30 May 2006, death toll reached  around 5,135 lifes. The event was also highlighted by the recitation of mass prayer led by Ustad Haji Dr. Abdurrahman Haqqi.

 

            The Indonesian Ambassador, H.E. Herijanto Soeprapto in his remarks quoted that the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam has sent condolences and expressed deep sadness on fatality of many lives following the earthquake hitting Indonesia. Indonesian Ambassador also appreciated the friends of Brunei Darussalam and Indonesian who had expressed their sympathy and provided assistance for the victims.

 

            The occasion was concluded by presentation on “ the earthquakes symptom and tips to avoid casualties “ delivered by Haji Agus S. Djamil, an Indonesian geologist. In his presentation, the speaker explained the process of earthquake with its epicenter in Indian Ocean 37 km South of  Yogjakarta on 27 May 2006. At the end, speaker gave some early warnings and tips of the disaster to anticipate the earthquake could come afterward.
