INDONESIANS IN THE SULTANATE PERFORMED “GHAIB”
MASS PRAYER  FOR EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI
VICTIMS IN ACEH AT THE EMBASSY
 
 
 
In light of the national disaster, devastating earthquake and tsunami tidal wave which occurred on 26 December 2004 in the Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) and North Sumatra, The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bandar Seri Begawan conducted the “Ghaib” mass prayer for the Moslem casualties of the tragedy. The service aims to show solidarity and unity toward our countrymen especially to casualties. The mass prayer attended by Ambassador of Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Yusbar Djamil and more than 150 Indonesian expatriates and their families in Brunei Darussalam.
 
The “Ghaib” mass prayer performed after “Isya” led by Ustad Haji Abdul Qadir Umar Alhamidy, MA, senior lecturer of Islamic Study Institute of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien, University of Brunei Darussalam. The mass prayer was followed by the recital of “Surah Yasin” led by Ustad Haji Akhtiar Ismail. To date as of 31 December 2004, death toll in Indonesia alone reached around 80.00 lives.
 
The Indonesian Ambassador, H.E. Yusbar Djamil in his remarks quote the exemplary action led by His Majesty, the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam who sent condolences and expressed deep sadness on the fatality of many lives following the earthquakes and tsunami waves hitting Indonesia. Indonesian Ambassador also appreciated the friends of Brunei Darussalam and Indonesians who had express their sympathy and provide assistance in kind and liquids for the victims.
 
The function was concluded by the presentation of slide projector about “The earthquake and Tsunami in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam” delivered by Haji Agus S Djamil, an Indonesian geologist from Unit Petroleum of Prime’s Minister Office, Negara Brunei Darussalam. In his presentation, the speaker explained how the process of earthquakes and tidal tsunami with its epicenter in Indian Ocean 160 km West of the Province Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam on 26 December 2004. At the end, speaker gave some early warnings of the disaster to anticipate the earthquake could come afterward.
 
In response to the public demands who have expressed their sympathy and intended to donate to alleviate the misery faced by thousands of the victim of disasters in Aceh, the Indonesian Embassy has open The Tsunami Disaster Relief’s Assistance Section headed by Mr. M.
