Indonesian Embassy celebrated “Maulidur Rasul”
 
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bandar Seri Begawan carried out the celebration of the Prophet Mohammad’s birthday in a religious ceremony namely “Maulidur Rasul” on 12 Rabiul Awal 1426 H corresponding to 21 April 2005 at Embassy’s premise. The celebration which was attended by around 150 Indonesians is one of the Indonesian tradition and as a part of its culture celebrated by Indonesians in the home country and overseas as well.
 
The ceremony was commenced with Isya’ mass prayer and then continued by the recitation of Al Quran. Ceremony was also highlighted by nasyid performance by Indonesian students studying in Bandar Seri Begawan and recitation of “Barzanji” as showing respects and praises upon Prophet Mohammed led by Ustad Muslih Sugito, Indonesian teacher at Maktab Perguruan Ugama “Seri Begawan” in Bandar Seri Begawan.
 
In his remarks, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Mr. Yusbar Djamil quoted the exemplary action shown by Prophet Mohammed during his whole life. Meanwhile, this year’s celebration is rather different atmosphere with previous events since Indonesia just underwent some natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcano’s eruption and landslides. A powerful earthquake of Richter 8.2 magnitude occurred in Nias, North Sumatra on March 29, 2005. This tragedy took place only three months after devastating earthquake and tsunami tidal wave which occurred in The Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. The event of “Maulidur Rasul” also aims to show solidarity and unity toward our countrymen especially to casualties by collecting some voluntary donation or “infaq” in the form of cash to be given to the earthquake victims in Nias, South Sumatra, Indonesia.
 
Maulidur Rasul’s function was marked by sermon which was delivered by Dr. Shahibuddin Laming MA, Indonesian senior lecturer at the Islamic Study of Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien, University of Brunei Darussalam. The speaker said that Islam is a religion which emphasizes to the character building of human beings. Every Moslem should perform his daily habits referring to what Prophet Mohammad shown exemplary action. Indeed, His birth aims to complete human’s moral value. The function was concluded by the “doa selamat” led by Dr. Abdurrahman Raden Aji Haqqi.
